A Court Ruling Won’t Change My Joy

Happiness is like a balloon. You are filled with it because of outward circumstances, like ice cream cones in the summer, unexpected days off, and quiet moments with S.M., but when it pops, the happiness is gone. You lay on the pavement, spent and torn, sometimes in pieces. Joy is different.

Joy is from the Lord. It’s pervasive even when everything is going wrong or when circumstances aren’t perfect; even when you feel like you are swimming upstream. Joy fills you from the inside out so you feel light.

So today I am enjoying an unexpected day off, capturing moments like photographs, and letting myself be filled by God’s Word. In spite of the ruling from the Supreme Court, this doesn’t change my faith or my values. It won’t change my joy.
