Negativity When Invited

You invite negativity in when you start a conversation with, “You know what happened?!”

Mari met me at the coffee shop where I sipped an Earl Grey. She had a Vanilla Latte; a big one. It was that kind of day.

She was talking about some of the people in church. I sipped and looked around. Her voice rose slightly and some people eyes in the shop darted our way. One person looked at us curiously. I used my hands to motion to Mari to lower her voice.

I know she needed to vent. These days I am more aware than ever of my surroundings and public perception. Maybe blogging and being on social media makes me more aware how people perceive things.

I know Mari needs to vent. She trusts me. I’m not sure others should hear her vent. They wouldn’t understand the context and it would reflect on the whole Garden of Eden Community Church.

What do you think? What have your experiences been?

I prefer private conversation. You are more than welcome to email me in lieu of a comment or contact me via social media.
